services

Think Feel Grow provides a range of services to support the growth, mental health and wellbeing of children, young people and families.

Services include therapy and counselling, parent consultations addressing parenting-based support and supervision for professionals interested in ACT and DNA-V. All services are available in person or via telehealth.

Therapy and Counselling

Therapy and counselling can support children and young people to understand and cope with thoughts and feelings, build insight, discover their strengths, build confidence, grow skills and do the things that are important to them.

The skills that psychologists help their clients learn, are skills for all people, not just those who are having a hard time.

Parent Consultations

Consultations with parents and caring adults is a short-term service for those who are seeking assistance regarding parenting-based concerns and strategies to support their child or teen’s wellbeing and development.

These sessions focus on building an understanding of the situation, providing parenting support and developing skills and strategies.

Professional Supervision

Renae provides supervision for therapists and professionals who want to build their knowledge, skills and application of acceptance and commitment therapy and the DNA-V model with children and young people, and in parent and family work.

Renae is a board approved supervisor for provisional psychologists completing their 4+2 or 5+1 internships.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions for clients. If you have any other questions or concerns please feel free to contact us.

Think Feel Grow has a first appointment process to ensure the child or young person receives the appropriate support, all people have the opportunity to ask questions and to provide relevant information, to understand the services provided and to provide consent and assent. The aim of the first session is to discuss and gather important information including historical and current information, begin discussing hopes and goals and to discuss therapy approaches.

For parents and caring adults of children who are 12 or younger, the first appointment is with parents/caring adults only (Medicare rebate not available for this session). For clients who are 13 or older, the first session is with both the young person and their parents/caring adults for at least the first 15 minutes of the session to welcome you to Think Feel Grow as well as to obtain consent and to discuss the referral. After this, it is up to the young person if they would like to meet with their psychologist on their own.

Following sessions often feel different, as the focus of these sessions are addressing hopes and goals.

Many psychologists have profiles on their websites. You can read about them and choose someone you think may work well with you or if you are a parent, your child. See About to read about our psychologist.
Some people know after the first session, others may take a couple more. It is important to find a psychologist who you feel listens to you, who you feel comfortable to discuss things with, who you feel cares and who you find helpful. If after about three sessions you still feel you are not a good fit, that is completely ok and you can discuss this with your psychologist. We recommended that parents or caring adults check-in with their child and ask about their thoughts on the fit after the first three sessions.
Psychologists understand that finding a good fit is very important and we want clients to have a positive experience. We are open to discussing this with you and your child and we can try to change things or if you prefer, we can help you with other options such as suggesting other psychologists or going back to your GP.

No, you can access services at Think Feel Grow without a referral as a private client. However, a valid referral under the Better Access initiative from a GP, psychiatrist or paediatrican attracts a Medicare rebate of $93.35.

Valid referrals from GPs, psychiatrists or paediatricans include letters which state the client’s name, DOB and address, assessed mental health condition (including provisional diagnoses), any relevant assessment or background information, request for psychological service, number of sessions requested, date, signature and Medicare provider number.

The referral may be addressed to Think Feel Grow or it could be to another practice. Referrals addressed to any practice or psychologist can be accepted at Think Feel Grow if you choose. You do not need to go back to your doctor to change who the referral is addressed to.

Psychologists have ethical and legal requirements addressing privacy and confidentiality.

Psychologists working with children and young people keep their session information confidential, including from parents and caring adults. There are limits to confidentiality including when there is a safety or risk concern, or when there is a subpoena.

However, we also acknowledge that parents and caring adults can provide important support to a child and young person, and parental involvement is supported when appropriate and when the child or young person agrees. Parental involvement is an ongoing discussion. We will discuss confidentiality, limits and parent involvement during the first session.

All psychologists are required to maintain and keep adequate records including notes about each session (session notes), notes from consultations, copies of emails and letters, and other documents written by your psychologist such as reports. Client records are managed and protected in accordance with the applicable state and federal laws. Health records are legally required to be stored for a number of years following the conclusion of your services with us.
Records for children and young people under 18 must be stored until they have reached 25 years old. All records are stored securely on Power Diary, an online practice management software
